Task 2.1 definition of e-learning

I was supposed to search for information about e-learning. Here a definition of e-learning which suits me the best till now. It is from the “European e-learning action plan” out of the book “e-learning, concepts and practice” written by Holmes and Gardner:

The use of new multimedia technologies and the internet to improve the quality of learning by facilitating acess to resources and services as well as remote exchanges and collaboration.

I like this definition because in my eyes e-learning is a good additive possibility to face-to-face learning. Besides in this definition e-learning isn’t only implicated with a computer program. I agree in that point, there are many different ways to have an e-learning system. You can for example write mails, talk via skype or telephone, learn online together or use videocameras.

To be honest this definiton is extreamly wide, but I don’t have a clear definition in my head yet so it should be okay for the beginning.
